What it can do

This breast pump is flexible and easy to use, allowing you to switch between electric and manual pumping. You can also choose to use it as a double or single pump. Additionally, it’s designed with the user in mind and offers an array of features that make pumping a breeze.

The Hegen PCTO Breast Pump is designed to make pumping breastmilk more comfortable and efficient, so mothers can focus on providing their babies with the best nutrition possible. With its adjustable suction and massage modes, mothers can customize the pump to fit their individual needs.

  • Double or single pumping

Because the pump comes with two flanges and two bottles, you can pump both breasts at the same time or pump just one while breastfeeding.

  • Manual or electric pumping

Other breast pumps are electric-only or manual-only. This Hegen breast pump, however, can be converted from an electric pump to a manual pump and back. It’s a versatile piece of equipment that can keep up with your changing needs.

  • Customizable suction

You can enable and disable massage mode if you want to go right into expression mode. Expression mode has three rhythms: slow, medium, and fast. You can customize each expression rhythm even further by adjusting the suction strength, which has 12 levels. All in all, you’ll have 36 different expression variations that you can use while pumping.

How to use the Hegen PCTO Breast Pump

Electric mode

Despite having 36 different expression variations, using the Hegen PCTO breast pump is easy and simple. With its intuitive design, the Hegen PCTO breast pump is made to make pumping as comfortable and efficient as possible.

Step 1: Assemble the different parts of the pump.

The parts you’ll need are the little square pump device, one or both of the silicone tubing, and one or both of the breast milk storage containers with the flanges, caps, seals, and valves. Connect one end of the tubing to the port on the machine and the other end to the cap of the flange.

If you’re using a single pump, you’ll only need one tubing. Make sure to keep the other port covered by the flap right next to it so the machine’s suction won’t be affected.

Step 2: Choose the mode you want to use.

Turn on the device by pressing the power button. You can either choose massage mode first to stimulate letdown, or you can go straight to expression mode. If massage mode is on, the letter M will appear on the screen of the device. This mode will last for 2 minutes, then the device will switch to expression mode.

If you need to return to massage mode from expression mode, you can press the power button twice.

Step 3: Adjust the expression rhythm and suction power.

You can pick from the three expression rhythms: slow, medium, and fast. Afterward, you can start to adjust the suction power according to your preferences and comfort level. You can also change the suction power from level 1 all the way up to level 12.

If you’re using the pump for single pumping, make sure that you won’t go beyond level 9 of suction power.

Step 4: Seal the breast milk storage containers properly.

The pump directs breast milk directly to the breast milk storage bottles. Once you’re done pumping, you can remove the bottles from the flanges and put them on the lid. The lids snap on when you press down on them but keep in mind that you also have to twist them clockwise to lock them into place.

You can then store the containers in the freezer and take them out when you’re ready to use them.

Manual mode

While the Hegen PCTO breast pump is an electric pump, you can also convert it into a manual pump. All the parts you need are in the package as well, and using the breast pump manually is easy.

Step 1: Assemble the parts you need for manual pumping.

The things you’ll need are the bottle, the flange, the eCap, the eDiaphragm, and the cap handle. Put the diaphragm on the top opening of the flange, then put on the cap. Take the handle and attach it to the stem on the cap.

Step 2: Stimulate letdown.

Check to see if the handle is attached properly and the diaphragm and cap are facilitating proper suction. Once everything is in order, you can start pumping. Take two fingers and make short pumps in quick succession to stimulate letdown.

Step 3: Continue manual expression.

Once you see that a few drops of milk have started to come out, you can switch to pumping with four fingers. Make longer and slower pumps to draw out the milk and imitate a baby’s natural suckling.

Step 4: Store the milk in the freezer.

Once you’re done pumping, you can replace the flange with the lid. Once the breast milk storage container lid is securely locked, you can put the bottle in the freezer for storage.

Hegen PCTO Breast Pump Pros

Can be used as an electric or manual pump

The Hegen PCTO breast pump is a versatile device that can be used as both an electric and a manual pump. With just a few tweaks, allows you to easily switch between electric and manual modes. It’s thus a great choice for mothers who want the convenience of an electric pump but also the flexibility of a manual pump.

Additionally, you won’t have to purchase a separate electric pump and a manual pump, which can be more expensive and can also take up more space in your home.

Highly customizable pumping experience

This breast pump is designed to be comfortable and easy to use, with a range of settings to suit different needs. It also has an adjustable suction strength so that mothers can find the best setting for their needs. This way, you can get as much milk as you want while remaining comfortable.

With 36 different expression and suction settings that you can use, you might need time to find the exact setting that will work best for you. However, finding and adjusting the setting you want will be easier once you get the hang of this pump. It thus allows mothers to choose the best option for their individual needs.

Additionally, you’ll be able to pump either one or both breasts at the same time.

Easy to assemble and use

Putting the different parts of the pump together is easy as long as you make sure that all the parts are complete. Assembly is easy, whether you’re using it as an electric pump or a manual pump.

The pump’s device is designed with an intuitive control panel that allows you to easily adjust the suction power and speed to your needs. The buttons are easy to understand and the display is easy to read so operating the pump isn’t difficult at all.

Silent and discreet pumping

A lot of breast pumps are quite effective and reliable but are also quite loud. The noise can make it difficult to pump discreetly if you’re pumping at work or anywhere other than your home. Additionally, you’ll be able to pump while your baby is asleep without worrying about waking them up.

Additionally, the device is small and lightweight, so it won’t take up much space. You’ll be able to easily pack it in a diaper bag, a backpack, or a tote so you’ll be able to bring it anywhere with you without much hassle.

Containers can be used for pumping, storage, and feeding

This breast pump is also compatible with Hegen’s signature milk bottles. It also comes with two breast milk storage containers that can be attached to the flanges for pumping. In addition, you can use these same containers for freezing breast milk, and you can heat the milk and feed your baby from the same containers as well.

This way, you won’t have to transfer milk from container to container, and you won’t waste a single drop in the process.

Can be used for body massages

You can also use parts of the pump for massaging parts of your body. If you have a sore neck, back, or shoulder, this pump can help you. All you’ll need are the square pump device, one of the silicone tubes, the eCap, the eDiaphragm, and the kneading ring. Follow these steps:

  • Put the diaphragm into the underside of the cap, then put in the kneading ring so that it encircles the diaphragm.
  • Turn the kneading ring clockwise to lock it into place. Make sure both the diaphragm and kneading ring are securely locked into the cap
  • Connect a silicone tube to the cap’s stem and to the pump’s device. Make sure that the other tubing slot on the device is covered.
  • Choose the strength and pace that you’re most comfortable with.
  • Put the cap against your body; it should be in full contact with your skin. It can then start gently massaging your shoulders, neck, back, or any other spots that ache.

Hegen PCTO Breast Pump Cons

Shows wear and tear over time

The Hegen PCTO breast pump is built to last and you’ll be able to use it to pump for multiple children. However, once you start using it for your second child, you’ll likely notice a bit of wear and tear.

The suction in particular won’t be as powerful and you may need to use higher settings than you previously used to get the same results. Additionally, you may also notice some wear on some of the parts and accessories, particularly the milk storage containers. However, the breast pump as a while will still be useable and can still perform well.

Not compatible with other milk storage containers

Because Hegen bottles and milk storage containers have square openings instead of round, they won’t be able to work with bottles and milk storage containers from other brands. If you want to use something like a milk warmer, you’ll need an adapter designed specifically for Hegen bottles.

Thus, if you already have bottles, milk storage containers, or a pump from another brand, you’ll be unlikely to be able to use them with the Hegen pump and accessories.

Frequently asked questions

Is it okay to just pump and not breastfeed?

Pumping is a good option if you’ve been having issues with breastfeeding, or if you’re unable to breastfeed for any reason. You can pump regularly to keep your breastmilk supply up and still feed your baby breastmilk.

Is getting a double breast pump worth it?

Yes. In fact, double pumping is quite beneficial. You’ll be able to increase your supply because both breasts are being stimulated to produce milk at the same time. Additionally, you’ll be able to drain both breasts of milk more efficiently.

What are the disadvantages of an electric breast pump?

Many electric breast pumps can be quite loud and large, which makes pumping discreetly difficult. Using an electric pump can also be painful for some.

Why is Hegen popular?

Hegen products are well-designed and made of high-quality materials, like PPSU. The products are also long-lasting and are worth what you pay for.
