Meet Serene @somethingboutrenes
Q: Hi Serene! Tell us a bit about yourself and your family.
Serene: I’m Serene, a full-time working mom with two daughters—aged 7 and 3. My eldest, Avery, is in Primary 1 and currently attends MindSpace. Life is a bit of a whirlwind, but we make it work

The Daily Routine
Q: What does a typical weekday look like for your family?
Serene: Every morning, we walk Avery to school together and drop her off before 7.15am. After that, I head to work, and my helper sends my younger daughter to school. She will then head over to MindSpace on her own, complete homework and revise her day’s work with the subject coaches here In the evening, either myself, my husband, or my parents will pick Avery up from MindSpace.
In the evenings, either my husband, my parents, or I will pick her up. After that, it’s piano practice, dinner, and some family time. Some evenings we play board games, other times we go for a quick swim. Before bed, we’ll do a bit of light revision together, just to help her stay on top of things. The kids are usually in bed by 9pm. Lights out by 9pm! It’s a packed day for sure.
The Search for After-School Support
Q: What made you start looking into enrichment or after-school programs?
Serene: As a working mom, I wanted to make sure Avery wasn’t just sitting around at home after school. I wanted her to be engaged in something meaningful—not just taken care of, but really guided and nurtured.
Q: So how did you come across MindSpace?

Serene: Through our parent WhatsApp group, actually! A few parents recommended it when we were asking about student care options. That got the ball rolling.
Why I Chose Mindspace?
Q: What made MindSpace stand out from other centres?
Serene: We actually visited three different brands before deciding. MindSpace just felt different—the environment, the curriculum, even the franchisee… everyone was so involved and passionate.
We didn’t want Avery in a cramped, classroom-style student care center. MindSpace as a MOE-registered student care, had open spaces for reading and play, plus activities that help kids unwind and enjoy learning. Their curriculum includes core subjects like Math, Chinese, and English—and they teach life skills and confidence-building too.

First Impressions & Settling In
Q: What was your first impression of the center and the teachers?
Serene: Spacious, neat, and very well run. I was really happy to see that each center has at least one MOE-trained teacher, and their assistants all hold diploma qualifications. The team genuinely cares about the kids.

Q: How did Avery take to MindSpace in the first few weeks?
Serene: She loved it. She was always excited to tell me what activities she did that day. I could tell she felt safe and supported. The teachers really encourage the kids to speak up and embrace the Champion Mindset.
How It Helped My Daughter

Q: What do you think Avery enjoys most about her time there?
Serene: She loves the reward system—it keeps her motivated. She also enjoys the stories, games, and activities that come with Champion Mindset sessions.

Q: Have you noticed any changes in her since joining?
Serene: Yes, definitely! She’s become more confident and cheerful. I can see her growing emotionally and academically.

Q: What’s her favorite part of MindSpace?
Serene: Champion Mindset, hands down. It makes learning so much more engaging for her.
Q: And what about you—what’s impressed you most as a parent?
Serene: The facilities and the structure. They don’t just help Avery finish homework; they also go through revisions with her. That extra bit of effort boosts her confidence in school.
What Parents Should Know
Q: How do you celebrate Avery’s progress?
Serene: We usually go out for a nice dinner or café treat as a family, or let her pick out a new book. It’s our way of saying, “Great job, we’re proud of you!”
Q: If you could describe your MindSpace experience in a few words, what would they be?
Serene: Beyond academics, changing mindset.

Advice to Fellow Parents
Q: What would you say to moms and dads who are unsure about enrolling?
Serene: I’d say—give it a shot. MindSpace isn’t just student care. It’s a nurturing environment that teaches values and builds confidence. They go beyond academics and really care about your child’s growth.
